The signing ceremony of Grant Contract for Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) for the provision of Medical Equipment to Al-Imamain Al-Khadhimain Medical City Teaching Hospital in Baghdad Governorate

  1. On 2 September 2025, the grant contract regarding the provision of medical equipment to Al-Imamain Al-Khadhimain Medical City Teaching Hospital in Baghdad was signed by Mr. Akira ENDO, Ambassador of Japan to Iraq, and Ms. Hala Muhammed Al-Saraf, Executive Director of the Iraqi Health Access Organization (IHAO), at the Embassy of Japan in Iraq. Under this project, the Government of Japan will provide 65,493 US dollars to IHAO for the procurement of an advanced anesthetic machine, which will be utilized by the hospital.
 
  1. Al-Imamain Al-Khadhimain Medical City Teaching Hospital, which was built in the 1980s by the Japanese company “Marubeni”, has long served as a vital healthcare center for the people of Baghdad and Iraq. The new anesthetic machine will significantly enhance the hospital’s capacity of conducting operations more efficiently and providing better surgical care to patients.
 
  1. This grant is provided through Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme, which aims at addressing the immediate and critical needs of local communities. The Government of Japan has successfully carried out over 100 projects since 2003 throughout Iraq, in various fields including healthcare, education, public infrastructure, public welfare and landmine clearance.
