Project for the Improvement of Equipment for
Exhibition, Conservation and Restoration at the Slemani Museum
1. On 25 March 2025, Mr. ENDO Akira, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Iraq, and H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the Republic of Iraq, signed and exchanged notes concerning “Project for the Improvement of Equipment for Exhibition, Conservation and Restoration at the Slemani Museum”.
2. The objective of this project is to further improve the quality of the Slemani Museum by providing equipment necessary for exhibition, conservation and restoration, thereby contributing to the protection of cultural properties and the promotion of education and tourism sector of Kurdistan Region. The expected amount of the grant is 116,200,000 Japanese yen (approximately 760,000 USD), and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will implement the project together with Ministry of Municipalities and Tourism of Kurdistan Regional Government.
3. This grant comes under the scheme of Cultural Grant Assistance. This scheme aims to promote culture, sports, and higher education in recipient countries, as well as provide support for the improvement of facilities and the purchase of equipment to be used in the conservation of cultural heritage, thereby enhancing mutual understanding and friendly relations between Japan and recipient countries. The Government of Japan provides Cultural Grant Assistance as part of the Official Development Assistance (ODA).
