Grassroots Human Security Projects for Provision of Medical Devices to
the Hussain Teaching Hospital in Muthanna Governorate
- On 15 October 2024, a signing ceremony for the Grant Contract was held at the Embassy of Japan in Iraq. The Government of Japan provided financial assistance up to US $106,000 for the Project for Provision of Medical Devices to the Hussain Teaching Hospital in Muthanna Governorate. It was signed by the Chargé d’ Affaires ad interim of Japan to Iraq, Mr. YOKOTA Kenji, and Mr. Ahmed M. A. Al-Heety, President of The United Iraqi Medical Society for Relief and Development (UIMS), who will implement this project.
- The project aims at improving the quality of medical treatment to be provided to people of Samawah and its surrounding areas, by equipping the operation theaters of the Hussain Teaching Hospital with two anesthetic machines and two operation lamps.
- In Samawah city, Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF) was stationed from January 2004 to July 2006 and worked on various reconstruction projects and this year marks the 20th anniversary of the dispatch of JSDF.
- This grant comes under the scheme of Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects by the Government of Japan. Grassroots projects aim to bring immediate and direct effects on improving the living condition of Samawah city. The Government of Japan has carried out over 100 projects of this kind since 2003 throughout Iraq, in various fields including medical care, education, public infrastructure, public welfare and landmine/UXO clearance.
