- On the 21st February 2019, Mr. Naofumi Hashimoto, Ambassador of Japan to Iraq, presented the Ambassador’s Commendation to Mr. Kawa Sami Sabri Al Sorani, Country Representative of Peace Winds Japan (PWJ) Iraq Programme for his outstanding contributions to enhancing mutual understanding and friendship between Japan and Iraq.
- PWJ has been an active player in delivering humanitarian and development assistance to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region since 1996. It has expanded its programme to target Syrian refugees since 2012 and internally displaced persons since 2014. Its geographic coverage has also been widened from the Kurdistan region to Sinjar of Ninawa Governorate.
- Ambassador Hashimoto said “PWJ is always referred to by the local population when they talk about the Japanese projects”, and continued “its name is regarded as being synonymous to the genuine goodwill and friendship exhibited by the Japanese people to Iraqis”.
- Against those challenging environments which PWJ’s Iraq Programme has undergone, Mr. Kawa Sami has been successful in performing his responsibilities through securing effective implementation of a large number of humanitarian and development projects and efficient management of his offices and staff members since he entered the organization in November 2002 and then took his current post in February 2011.
