The Signing Ceremony of the Cultural Grassroots Grant Assistance Contract
for the Project for Improvement of Equipment for Japanese Language Facilities at the College of Arts, University of Baghdad
1. On 3 February 2019, the Government of Japan provided financial assistance of up to 89,100 USD for the Project for Improvement of Equipment for Japanese Language Facilities at the College of Arts, University of Baghdad. A signing ceremony for the Grant Contract was held which was signed by the Ambassador of Japan to Iraq, H.E. Mr. Naofumi Hashimoto, and the Executive Director of Iraqi Al-Amal Association Mr. Jamal Al-Jawaheri, which will support the implementation of this project.
2. This project aims at providing a language learning system to improve the teaching of Japanese language in a designated room at the College of Arts, Baghdad University. The system includes language learning hardware for one teacher and 36 students, Japanese language software, furniture and other appliances. The system also allows the students to enjoy online Japanese language classes given live by professors at a university in Japan. The project will benefit the regular students at the College of Arts (both morning and evening classes) as well as the students of the Japanese language course at the Life-Long Education Center at the same College.
3. The room will be named “Japan Room” in celebration of the 80th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Iraq.
4. This grant comes under the scheme of Cultural Grant Assistance by the Government of Japan. The Government of Japan has carried out over 8 projects of this kind between 2003 and 2005 in Iraq. This is the first such project in 14 years.
