The Signing Ceremony of Grant Contract for the Project for Improvement of Irrigation System in Badosh District, Ninawa
- On March 3 2012, The Government of Japan provided financial assistance of up to $101,417 for "the Project for Improvement of Irrigation System in Badosh District, Ninawa". A signing ceremony for its Grant Contract was held on the same day at the Embassy of Japan in Iraq. The Grant Contract was signed by Mr. Kenichiro MUKAI, Charge d'Affaires ad interim of the Embassy of Japan in Iraq, and Mr. Sinan Ra’ad Ahmed, Chairperson of COYS (Cultural Organization for Student and Youth).
- This project aims at digging five wells and pipelining to provide irrigation system for two villages in Badosh District in Ninawa Governorate. The project is financed by the Japanese Government and to be implemented by the Cultural Organization for Student and Youth, active Iraqi NGO based in Ninawa Governorate. Around 6,500 farmers in Badosh District are expected to get stable access to agricultural water, which leads the improvement of the living situation of the area through the growth of agricultural products such as wheat and barley.
- This grant comes under the scheme of Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects by the Government of Japan. Grass–roots projects aim to bring an immediate and direct impact on the living conditions of the local community. The Government of Japan has carried out over 90 projects of this kind since 2003 throughout Iraq, in various fields including healthcare, education, poverty and public welfare.
