The 3rd Japanese Film Festival at University of Baghdad
- On February 23 the Embassy of Japan in Iraq, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Iraq and University of Baghdad co-organized the 3rd Japanese Film Festival at Al-Mustapha Hall, College of Women Education, University of Baghdad. Around 280 people, mainly university students, officials, people active in the field of culture and art as well as media people attended the festival.
- Mr. Kenichiro MUKAI, Charge d’Affaires ad interim, Embassy of Japan, made opening remarks. He stressed the importance of mutual understanding between Japan and Iraq and expressed his hope to promote cultural exchange between the two countries.
- The “Robocon” screened at the festival, which is directed by fresh newcomer film-maker Furuyama Tomoyuki, who received both the Tiger and FIPRESCI awards for “Bad Company”(2001) at the International Film Festival Rotterdam. This film describes the life of typical Japanese high school students, exerting a great deal of effort into school club activities to achieve their goals and they are growing through these activities.
- Many invitees expressed their appreciation to the Government of Japan for its initiative to promote cultural exchanges. They showed their hopes to expansion of this film festival and further strengthening the cooperation between two countries in the cultural field.
- The Embassy of Japan believes that the festival offered a great opportunity for Iraqi people to be exposed to Japanese culture and to promote mutual understanding between Japan and Iraq.
