The Japanese Photo Exhibition in Erbil, Basrah, Samawah
- In February 2012, the Japanese Photo Exhibition, titled “Japan the land of gold, as I saw it,” co-organized by Iraqi Cultural Support Association(ICSA), Japan Foundation and the Embassy of Japan in Iraq was held in Erbil, Basrah and Samawah. This exhibition was held in Baghdad in last year.

Mr. Kawa Mahmoud, Minister of Culture for Kurdistan Regional Government(KRG), Mr. Mufeed al-Jazairi, Representative of the ICSA, Mr. Fuad Shakir, Iraqi Photographer, and Mr.Tomofumi NISHINAGA, Minister-Counselor of the Embassy of Japan, provided opening remarks. And about 100 people such as diplomats, JICA staffs, press and artists attended to the opening ceremony.
- Basrah (from 15 to 16 February 2012, at Central Library Hall of Basrah University)
Mr. Susumu HASEGAWA, Ambassador of Japan to Iraq, Mr. Mufeed al-Jazairi, Dr. Sajid Saad al-Noor, Deputy president of Basrah University, and Mr. Fuad Shakir provided opening remarks. And about 50 people such as professors, press and artists beside many university students attended to the opening ceremony.
- Samawah (from 18 to 19 February 2012, at Cultural House of Samawah)
Mr. Mufeed al-Jazairi provided opening remarks. And Mr. Mohammad Arbod Al-Zayadi, The First Deputy Chairman of Muthanna Council, Mr. Qassim Al-Yasiri, The Chairman of Cultural Committee in Muthanna Council, and about 100 local people such as press, local poets, artists and photographers attended to the opening ceremony.
- The exhibited photos were taken by Mr. Fuad Shakir during his trip to Japan last summer by invitation of Japan Foundation. He had meetings with Japanese artists to exchange views and took photos actively in many cities including Tokyo, a symbol of modern Japan, Kyoto, a traditional city with long history, and Hiroshima and Nagasaki, places that was suffered by atomic bombs during the Second World War.
- The Embassy of Japan believes that the Exhibition offered a valuable opportunity for Iraqi people in major cities in Iraq to be exposed to Japanese culture and to promote their understanding on Japan.
