The Signing Ceremony of the Grassroots Grant Contract for the Project
for Construction of the Garraf Vocational Training Center
- On February 14 2012, the Government of Japan provided financial assistance of up to US$ 380,546 for “The project for Construction of the Garraf Vocational Training Center.” A signing ceremony for the Grant Contract to that effect was conducted on the same day at Garraf Oil Field Base Camp in Dhi-Qar Governorate. The Grant Contract was signed by the Japanese Ambassador to Iraq H.E. Mr. Susumu Hasegawa, and Director, Southern Iraq of MRDS (Millennium Relief and Development), Mr. David Douma, with the presence of Deputy Governor of Dhi-Qar Governorate, Mr. Haidar Abnayan, Mayor of the City of Rifa’i, Mr. Ajmi Bashit, Manager of Dhi-Qar Oil Field of South Oil Company and Chairman of Garraf Joint Management Committee, Mr. Kareem Yasir Hashim, and Executive Vice President of JAPEX, Mr. Katsuo Suzuki.
- This project aims at construction of a vocational training center and providing training equipments. The training center to be operated by MRDS with a financial and operational assistance from PETRONAS and JAPEX. The center is expected to benefit around 450 trainees yearly by greatly improving their job opportunities and development of people’s vocational capability.
- This grant comes under the scheme of Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects by the Government of Japan. Grass-roots projects aim to bring immediate and direct effects on improving the living condition of a local community. The Government of Japan has carried out over 90 projects of this kind since 2003 throughout Iraq, in various fields including healthcare, education, poverty and public welfare.
