The 3rd Japanese Film Festival at the Embassy of Japan
- On February 9, the Embassy of Japan in Iraq and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Iraq co-organized the 3rd Japanese Film Festival at the hall of the Embassy. Around 40 people including governmental officials, people active in the field of culture and art as well as media people attended the festival.
- Mr. Tomofumi NISHINAGA, Minister Counselor, Embassy of Japan, made opening remarks. He stressed the importance of mutual understanding between Japan and Iraq and expressed his hope to promote cultural exchange between the two countries. Mr. Fuzi Al-Atrushi, Deputy Minister of Culture, also delivered a speech on the behalf of the Iraqi side.
- The “Summer Wars” screened at the festival, which is a SF animated feature film from internationally acclaimed director Hosoda Mamoru, depicts a space where the real world and a virtual community named OZ co-exist with high quality animation techniques.
- Many invitees expressed their appreciation to the Government of Japan for its initiative to promote cultural exchanges. They showed their great interests in the film and the Japanese way of thinking described in the film.
- The Embassy of Japan believes that the festival offered a great opportunity for Iraqi people to be exposed to Japanese culture and to promote mutual understanding between Japan and Iraq.
