The Signing Ceremony of the Grassroots Grant Contract for the Project for Rehabilitation of Schools in Sadr District, Baghdad
- On January 25 2012, the Government of Japan provided financial assistance up to US$ 101,528 for “The project for Rehabilitation of Schools in Sadr District, Baghdad.” A signing ceremony for the Grant Contract to that effect was conducted on the same day at the Embassy of Japan in Iraq. The Grant Contract was signed by the Japanese Ambassador to Iraq H.E. Mr. Susumu Hasegawa, and Chair Person of the Anfal Humanitarian Foundation, Mr. Khairullah Salih Abbas , with the presence of chairman of civil society institutions committee in Iraqi Parliament Mr. Ali Muhsin Al-Timimi.
- This project aims at rehabilitation the overall two schools facilities. The project is financed by the Japanese Government and to be executed by Anfal Humanitarian Foundation. The school rehabilitation is expected to benefit around 2,000 children and their teachers by greatly improving their educational environment.
- This grant comes under the scheme of Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects by the Government of Japan. Grass-roots projects aim to bring immediate and direct effects on improving the living condition of a local community. The Government of Japan has carried out over 90 projects of this kind since 2003 throughout Iraq, in various fields including healthcare, education, poverty and public welfare.
