Launching Ceremony of the project “Youth Livelihoods Development in Southern Iraq”
- On June 13 2012, the launching ceremony of the project “Youth Livelihoods Development in Southern Iraq” was held in Baghdad with the presence of Mr. Susumu Hasegawa, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Iraq, Ms. Marie-Helene Bricknell, Special Representative of the World Bank for Iraq, Mr. Mehdi Al-Allaq, Deputy Minister of Planning, Mr. AbdulSada Shnawa, Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs and Ms. Amy Mina, Country Director of Save the Children for Iraq.
- This project is supported by the World Bank’s Japan Social Development Fund (JSDF) with the amount of 3 million US dollars and implemented by Save the Children in Iraq.
- This project aims to support 3,000 unemployed young men and women aged between 16 and 24 in the three southern governorates (Basra, Thiqar and Missan), to build the skills required for gainful employment and link them to available job and enterprise opportunities.
- The Government of Japan has contributed to JSDF in support of innovative social programs to help alleviate poverty in eligible client countries of the World Bank Group since 2000.
