Launching Ceremony of the project
“Fighting Youth Unemployment through Education”
- On May 31 2012, the opening ceremony for launching the project “Fighting Youth Unemployment through Education” was held in Erbil with the presence of Mr. Kenichiro Mukai, Charge d'Affaires ad interim of Japan to the Republic of Iraq, Mr. Kawa Mahmoud Shakir, Minister of Culture and Youth of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Ms. Asos Najib Abdullah, Minister of Labour and Social Affairs of the KRG, Mr. Djelid Mohamed, Director UNESCO Iraq Office.
- The Government of Japan provided grant aid of 660,000 US dollars for the execution of its projects “Support to Middle East and North African countries”.
- The main objective of the project is to reduce poverty in Iraq and more specifically, this project aims to addressing the high unemployment in Iraq by increasing employment opportunities for youth, increasing the number of small enterprises and improving the economy within the Kurdistan Region.
- Besides UNESCO, the Ministry of Education of the KRG, the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs of the KRG, Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutes and Chamber of Commerce take part in this project as implementing partners.
