The Japanese Photo Exhibition in Baghdad
1. From March 21 to 30, the Japanese Photo Exhibition, titled “Japan the land of gold, as I saw it,” co-organized by Iraqi Cultural Support Association, Japan Foundation and the Embassy of Japan in Iraq was held at the Gallery of Iraqi Plastic Artists Society in Baghdad.
2. At the opening ceremony of the Exhibition on March 21, all participants observed a silent prayer for victims of Tohoku-Pacific Ocean Earthquake in Japan.
3. Mr. Mufeed al-Jazairi, Representative of the Iraqi Cultural Support Association, Mr. Fuad Shakir, Iraqi Photographer, and Mr. Yasumitsu Kida, Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, provided opening remarks.
4. The exhibited photos were taken by Mr. Fuad Shakir during his trip to Japan last summer by invitation of Japan Foundation. He had meetings with Japanese artists to exchange views and took photos actively in many cities including Tokyo, a symbol of modern Japan, Kyoto, a traditional city with long history, and Hiroshima and Nagasaki, places that suffered by atomic bombs during the Second World War.
5. According to the Iraqi Cultural Support Association, around 350 Iraqi people visited during the 10 days period and experienced Japan, old and new, aftermath of the world wars, and daily life of Japanese people, through the photos.
6. The Embassy of Japan believes that the Exhibition offered a valuable opportunity for Iraqi people to be exposed to Japanese culture and to promote mutual understanding between Japan and Iraq.
