The Signing Ceremony of the Grassroots Grant Contract for the Project for The Rehabilitation of Hamza Bin Abdul Muttalib Primary School
- On March 6 2011, the Government of Japan provided financial assistance of up to US$ 100,600 for “The project of the Rehabilitation of Hamza Bin Abdul Muttalib Primary School.” A signing ceremony for the Grant Contract to that effect was conducted on the same day at the Embassy of Japan in Iraq. The Grant Contract was signed by the Japanese Ambassador to Iraq H. E. Mr. Susumu Hasegawa, and Manager of the Iraqi Teacher Committee for Women NGO Ms. Fatina Baban, with the presence of Chairman of Education Committee in Baghdad Governorate Council Dr. Falah Al-Qaisi, and Assistant Director General of NGO Assistance Office in General Secretariat for the Council of Ministers Ms. Perwin Ali.
- This project aims at renovating the school building and schoolyard, and provides equipment to the school. The project is financed by the Japanese Government and to be implemented by the Iraqi Teacher Committee for Women, an active Iraqi NGO in humanitarian assistance based in Baghdad. The school rehabilitation is expected to benefit around 370 pupils and their teachers by greatly improving their educational environment.
- This grant comes under the scheme of Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects by the Government of Japan. Grass-roots projects aim to bring an immediate and direct impact on the living condition of the local community. The Government of Japan has carried out over 90 projects of this kind since 2003 throughout Iraq, in various fields including healthcare, education, poverty and public welfare.
