The 2nd Japanese Film Festival at the Embassy of Japan
- On March 3, the Embassy of Japan in Iraq and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Iraq co‐organized the 2nd Japanese Film Festival at the hall of the Embassy. Around 40 people including the Members of Parliament, officials, people active in the field of culture and art as well as media people attended the festival.
- Mr. Susumu Hasegawa, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Iraq, made opening
remarks. He stressed the importance of mutual understanding between Japan and
Iraq and expressed his hope to promote cultural exchange between the two
countries.
- The “Love and Honor” screened at the festival depicts honor of samurai and bonds
of a couple overcoming their difficulties with setting at northeastern Japan in the
Edo Period (17th‐19th century). Its original Japanese title, “Bushi‐no‐Ichibun,”
means honor and face which samurai must preserve.
- Many invitees expressed their appreciation to the Government of Japan for its
initiative to promote cultural exchanges. They showed their great interests in the
film and the Japanese way of thinking described in the film.
- The Embassy of Japan believes that the festival offered a great opportunity for Iraqi
people to be exposed to Japanese culture and to promote mutual understanding
between Japan and Iraq.
