Environment Seminar at the Embassy of Japan
1. On December 26, the Embassy of Japan in Iraq organized the Environment Seminar
at its hall. Around 40 people including officials, academians as well as business and
media people attended the seminar.
2. Mr. Susumu Hasegawa, the Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Iraq, made
opening remarks. He stressed importance of bilateral relationship between Japan
and Iraq and introduced the presenter Dr. Hayder Manshi, Lecturer of the University
of Baghdad, who visited Japan in 2008 and 2010 by the invitation of the Japan
Foundation.
3. Dr. Hayder, who learned about the efforts of local governments in Japan toward
building eco‐friendly towns and conducted joint researches with Japanese scholars
on environmental issues in Japan, made a presentation titled “Japanese Experience
of Eco‐town Project.” It was followed by discussions among the participants.
4. Many participants expressed their appreciation to Dr. Hayder for his presentation
and to the Government of Japan for its initiative to promote academic exchanges.
They showed their great interests in the experience and knowledge Dr. Hayder
acquired through his visit to Japan. Participants actively discussed about
environmental challenges and ways of dealing with the environmental problems in
Iraq.
5. The Embassy of Japan believes that the seminar offered a good opportunity for Iraqi
people to get useful information on Japanese approaches to environmental issues,
to consider how to improve the environment in Iraq, and to promote the exchange
between Japan and Iraq in the field of environment.
